Good News
I'm happy to announce I've accepted a position as Development Executive with Amaze Film + Television. Not only are Amaze's partners, Teza Lawrence and Mike Souther, two of the most creative, honest, level-headed and likable producers I've ever met (qualities rarely seen together), their list of productions - past, current and future - is truly inspiring.
Top of that list is Call Me Fitz, starring Jason Priestly (TMN/Movie Central and HBO Canada, air date TBD - we'll know after HBO USA announces its new schedule). I've seen the first six episodes and was blown away. Jason Priestly is -- what's the word for beyond perfect? Who knew this 90210 star was also a brilliant comic actor? Created by Canada's resident genius Sheri Elwood, the show is seriously entertaining, shockingly stylish, and deeply, darkly funny. No wonder it's already being sold to broadcasters around the world.
Amaze also has some hot properties in development, including a sitcom created by Emmy-nominated producer, Chuck Tatham, co-executive producer on How I Met Your Mother, and Arrested Development. I look forward to adding many new, Amazing projects to their roster.
As if that ain't enough good news, I'm there part-time (Tues/Wed/Thurs), which gives me four days a week to pursue my own writing projects. Which brings me to my other bit of good news...
I was accepted into the Banff Literary Journalism Program -- 8 writers from across the country are treated to 4 weeks of all-expense-paid writing in Banff for the entire month of July, including airfare, accommodation, food, our own private writing cabin in the woods, our own grizzly bear... In fact, we actually get paid to be there. It's truly an honour to be accepted into this gift of a program, whose faculty this year includes the award-winning talent of writers Ian Brown, Don Gillmor, and Katherine Ashenburg.
To What I Am Also Up The usual mix - screenwriting, journalism, the occasional satirical song... I have several new screenwriting projects in development, including two feature-length comedies, the latest with director Penelope Buitenhaus. |
